Why do you think my atiel did this?

Last night I woke up at like 4:00 am, and couldn't get back to sleep. So I took my flashlight and took my bird out of his cage. He chilled with me for awhile, but he was still a little weary sense it was dark and he couldn't see well. Well, when I put him back in his cage, every time I sniffed or said his name he would make a little "eh" sound. Was he just communicating with me? He was probably tired so he obviously wouldn't start singing or anything!
