Is there a relation between NHL teams playing each other in the playoffs & their farmteams playing each other?

currently in the eastern quarterfinals, the pittsburgh penguins are playing the washington capitals. in the ahl eastern finals, the wilkes-barre baby pens (pittsburgh's farm team) are currently playing the hershey bears (washington's farm team). is this just a coincidence, or is there some connection between teams that play each other in the big leagues and in the minor leagues?
