Adjectives to describe ocean of Odyssey?

I'm writing an extensive, scenic piece describing the sea that Odyseus travels on his way back home. I'm specifically focusing on the sea and I need help with words that could possibly describe it and maybe even some similes or metaphors to other things in the book or things from the Illiad.. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe even some quotes is good!
